Local Nonprofit Prepares to Host 3rd Annual Back to School Bash

Updated: Oct 26

[Greensboro, NC, July 11, 2024] — Jay Mack Community Foundation is thrilled to announce its third annual Back to School Community Bash, scheduled for August 17, 2024, at LeBauer Park in downtown Greensboro, NC, starting at 11 AM. This event serves as a significant community initiative to support elementary and middle school students as they prepare to return to school and to give back to the community.

Guilford County faces a student poverty rate of 66.3%, creating financial challenges for families during the back-to-school season. The Back to School Community Bash aims to alleviate this burden by providing essential school supplies and resources.

The Jay Mack Community Foundation will distribute over 300 free backpacks filled with school supplies to elementary and middle school students attending the event. The event will feature a variety of activities, including vendors, community resources, food trucks, raffles, games, performances, and a live DJ. We anticipate over 1,000 attendees, 25 businesses, several special guests, and various media outlets to participate in this vibrant community gathering. The Back to School Community Bash not only provides essential support to families but also strengthens the bondswithin our community, highlighting the importance of coming together to support our youth.

At the heart of the foundation's mission is the belief that by providing opportunities for growth, development, and success, they can make a lasting impact on under-served children and families. Through a variety of events and programs, the foundation aims to bridge the gap and create a strong support system for the community. One of the cornerstone programs offered by the foundation is their family resource fairs. These events bring together local organizations, businesses, and community members to provide families with valuable resources and information on everything from healthcare and education to job opportunities and financial assistance. By connecting families with vital resources, the foundation helps to strengthen the community as a whole. In addition to resource fairs, the foundation also offers after-school enrichment programs designed to support children academically and socially. These programs provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, with a focus on building essential skills for success in school and beyond. Furthermore, parent support groups offer a space for caregivers to connect, share experiences, and gain valuable insights into parenting. By fostering a sense of community among parents, the foundation encourages collaboration and mutual support, creating a network of resources for families to lean on in times of need. STEM exploration workshops and cultural awareness events further enrich the foundation's offerings, providing children and families with opportunities to learn and experience new things. By promoting education and cultural understanding, the foundation helps to broaden horizons and open doors to new possibilities for the community. In essence, the Jay Mack Community Foundation is more than just a nonprofit organization—it is a lifeline for families in need. By empowering families through education and community engagement, the foundation is making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
